Individuals

I take the approach that counseling is a partnership in which we will work together to explore your goals, thought patterns, behaviors, and sometimes painful experiences to help move towards a more meaningful life. This can be a very rewarding and at times a difficult process; however, I strive to assist you in navigating through these emotions or challenging life events with, compassion, professional guidance and support.  I welcome feedback at all times during our sessions. If I feel I am unable to help you within my scope of expertise, I will gladly exhaust my resources to find other professionals or alternatives to meet your needs.

Couples

I frequently work with couples who come to therapy for a variety of reasons, including: seeking more meaningful and productive ways of communication, intimacy issues, and healing wounds of past disagreements. In my work with couples, I incorporate an approach known as Emotionally Focused Therapy . This approach strives to expand and reorganize key emotional responses, create a shift in the emotional patterns and cycles of the couple, and foster a more secure bond between couples.  I will provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment in which couples can candidly discuss these concerns.

Family

I frequently work with adolescents who may be suffering from depression, anxiety, having difficulties with peer groups in school or the transition from adolescents to adulthood. At times and depending on the client’s specific needs, I may find it beneficial to incorporate the parents during some of our sessions to provide insight and support during the therapeutic process.  In working with families, I use a systemic framework which incorporates the family history, current relationships, beliefs, and behaviors and how this impacts the family as a whole.  The systemic perspective helps to engage families in expressing emotions in a more creative and engaging manner, ultimately developing a deeper sense of connection to one another.
